As much as I loved the name “Kitsunetachi” (aka fox and company), I decided it would be best to convert to a web address in my own language. Anyone who wasn’t a “Japan-o-phile” just didn’t seem to get it, and spelling it out all the time was getting old. Thus my little home on the web is now also known as Fox Downs. Still has the same fox spirit. Welcome to the “re-Grand Opening”?

In other news. We have the Wii now. (Just can’t open it until Christmas day when dear father-in-law is here. Pout.) Even managed to help one of hubby’s co-workers get one. (Their kiddos ONLY wanted a Wii for Christmas. And I remembered the stories of my poor parents trying to get their hands on a Cabbage Patch doll the year they were all the rage.) We felt good doing a helpful deed in the grumpy season of shoppers that ought to be celebrating Christmas.

In that vein, I wanted to start a new tradition of giving a portion of the money we had set aside for Christmas gifts. Not sure which organization we’ll give to yet. There are many wonderful ones out there. But even my kids seem to understand this season isn’t all about getting gifts.

My Dad and brother valiantly drove out yesterday, despite running off the road Friday and about being hit by a semi. Dad’s truck is up and running again, so they ventured out across the state again. They made it in safe. I only have a chance about once a year to see my bro, so I was thrilled that it all worked out. We opened presents while they were here and were able to see kiddos enjoy the presents.

Today, for the first time in quite a while, we had fog - which at this time of year meant FROST! Hubby came home and said the fog had lifted. So I zipped out quickly to get photos of the rime on the trees against the blue sky.

Finished the very shiny, very red butterfly cape for my daughter. (She picked out the fabric. I really thought she’d pick the blue version.) Will be a feminine addition to the dress up clothes for Christmas. I can’t wait to give take a picture of her in it. (The hood stands up like a gnome cap, won’t fall down. I’m only slightly trying to hide my evil mom laugh over it.) Turned out quite well for my first adventure with slippery fabric.

Now to make 2 more capes (for other kids we know) and a tutu (for dear daughter). I wonder what I’ll find in the mean time to make for the boy-bo? (Need something hand made for him too.)

In life-in-general:

  • My parents came out for Thanksgiving and together we traipsed to Mitchell to visit my aunties, uncle and cousins. Convinced Mom and Dad to pose for me, so I could have a recent picture of them together. (Always get vacation shots from them, but they’re not together in them.)
  • Then Sunday I took the church staff Christmas picture. (Don’t have their permission or I’d post it. God was gracious and helped me get a super picture. YIPEE!) Crazy but good weekend.
  • Weekend before boy-bo had his b-day. First time we had a party that wasn’t at the house. 12 kids - absolutely delightful chaos. (The delight was that I knew it would only last 2 hours - there was a limit. But they were pretty good kids.)
  • Monday had a friend over and we tried a crazy 1920’s recipe that says to put a can of sweetened condensed milk in boiling water for 20 min, open can and slice. (We did take into consideration the likelyhood that today’s can’s might explode with this kind of abuse. So I opened the can.) Hours later - no where near slice consistency, but great caramel!
  • Life with Christmas coming up is surprisingly more relaxed. I’ve been doing minimal housework though this week so I can get the extra things done.
  • We re-arranged my little in home studio so I have the backdrops to the far wall. I love having more room to work with and be able to back up as much as I need. But there are limits - can only move side lights so far out now. (Only thing that would help would be if we can knock the wall to the laundry room out. hmmm.)
