Fabric Pockets for Plastic Totes
After procrastinating organizing the craft room, I realized I had NO CLUE what to do to organize that space any better than it is. (Very disfunctional is what it is.)
With no idea where to begin I figured sorting through stuff would help. The photography stuff was problem child #1 – so I started there.
There’s some cute plastic cd bins that I was using for my “use every once in a while” photo gear. And the problem with these bins presented itself: All the little things fall to the bottom and are a pain to retrieve.
After reading this article at I’m an Organizing Junkie and finding this bin – I stumbled on my solution… fabric pockets for my bins.

Fabric pockets for Plastic Totes
I did the pockets on 1 side at a time as separate pieces then sewed them to gether in middle. (Just because that’s how the widest part of my fabirc worked.)
Pin hem around. Fold the fabric (like folding in thirds) to form a pocket. Then re-pin the seam for the pocket.
Make sure you have a long part above the pocket. This will tuck into the bin and you need enough to go past the middle – so you can sew 2 pockets together to line the bin.

Check the pinned version before sewing the pocket. Sew. Repeat for 2nd pocket and sew the 2 long tops of the pockets together so they meet in the center of the bin (in the bottom of the container).
Took 1 hour to figure it out and sew it. Problem solved. Ready for next craft area issue.
Hope this little ditty is of use to others too.

Girl this is so very very clever! I love it, care to be my next Storage Star?
(blush) I’d be honored!
