Organizing Roundup Continued: The Office

September 30, 2008
by avlor

Still following Org Junkies’s Organizing Roundup.  This month’s task: the office.  I started off all hyped about this, since it’s an area I really needed to work on.

The area that bothered me the most was my photo and language study shelf.   It had only 1 shelf and I was always piling stuff in there.  So I lovingly cajoled my hubby into adding a second shelf.  And wah-lah.  (Projects done – Hubby 1, me 0.)

Then the projects facing me were the ones I had to do by myself.  So I hate to say it, but I procrastinated until the last week.

  • Went through the book shelves and tossed old magazines, got rid of (put in donation box) 1000+ sheets of 4×6 photo paper that I will never use, and took old laptop off shelf.  Now there’s quite a bit of room for more books.
  • Then the 2nd most dreaded task was left – the office supplies.  To my surprise, it went quite fast.  Moved all the gift wrapping supplies to their own area.  Then I had room to sort and store the stuff we actually use.  (And don’t tell hubby I tossed rubber bands and twist ties.)
  • Finally it came to the filing box.  I procrastinated this until yesterday.  But it only took a few hours to sort through it.  (Have yet to shred the box full of paper I took out of the filing box.)

Wasn’t anything earth shaking this month, but it all needed to be done.  Thanks for challenging us Org Junkie!  (Projects done – hubby 1, me 3)

Ooooo. Brilliant job. I got my own ‘office corner’ sorted out this week. It’s made a huge difference. I’ve got a bit more to do but I’m encouraged to do more now you’ve inspired with your own efforts. Yay you!

Hubby and I have just had a big clear out of our office and it was shocking the stuff we hoarded.
Owners manual for a garden strimmer we bought back in 1999 and used about twice? Yeah that’s really useful.
Gas bills from 6 years ago? What were we thinking.
The filing drawers look really bare now – maybe I need to go out and buy a couple of new things to store their manuals in there . . .

I second Dave’s “Ooooo.” Looks like you did a great job cleaning up that office! I can’t wait to tackle this month’s challenge: the craft studio.
