I actually won, new camera on the way, and tag…

My friend Ghostrock is responsible for getting me hooked on Photoshop TV. It’s all his fault. (/evil grin) And I haven’t been able to resist entering the trivia contests, in part because I didn’t know the answer to most of the questions and I thought it was a fun little way to learn something new about Photoshop each week.

So I entered last week, and LO and BEHOLD! I actually won! Egads! Me of all people! 2 things (this and the Nickleback tickets) in less than 6 months. My luck must be out now for years. (I feel like such a kid saying it, but it was fun to get the call from Ghostrock after he saw my name annouced as the winner on the show.)

Will be fun to have a little bendable gorillapod tripod – I’ve wanted one of those. The Best of Photoshop TV, I’m looking forward to seeing it. The ipod boombox/alarm – is cool, but I have no clue what to do with it. (I’m an ipod-less geek. Does that strip me of some of my geekiness? Oh I hope not!) I’m sure I’ll find a good use for it, or start saving for an ipod… (Very generous sponsors, don’t ya’ think?)

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered my camera today. I’ve been trying to make do with my little 2 megapixel camera – but I getabout 2/3 of the shots written to the card and many that do make it to the card are grainy.

I’d been oogling the Canon Rebel XTi for a while now. But 2 weeks ago an experienced member from my local camera club said I should try blowing up the photos from my little 2 MP camera to 8×10 just to try it, and it worked out amazingly well. In fact so well I decided I didn’t need 10 MP. I don’t think I will do much at this point beyond 8×10. This allowed me to get my camera sooner – because I had almost all of the $ for the next camera down when I decided. So my Rebel XT will be arriving any day now. (Wonder if it might arrive in time for Friday when I have time to go about and about with hubby on a date? /crossing fingers.)

Catching up on the game of tag…

6 wierd things about me tag–

Cailie tagged me.  I haven’t seen her in forever so I will humor her.

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the ’6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.”  (Will I pick on 6 people? We’ll see.)

  1. I am NOT usually a lucky person (the above notes on winnings are pretty much my lifetimes’ winnings).
  2. I work hard to be lazy, thankyou.  And I’m rather proud of it too.
  3. I lost half a tooth as a kid.  (Just half!)  Dentist had to pull the other rotten half out.
  4. I was a cheerleader with a leg brace in high school, and got called the Bionic Woman.  (How many of you knew that?  hmmm?)
  5. I am wierded out by creatures with tentacles.  (I don’t like to think about the things I disected in school).  But I actually was brave and tried baby octopus sushi 2 birthdays ago.  (Pretty good stuff!)
  6. I love to try new things.  It’s so addicting.  I may be terrible at them, but the point is to have fun trying something new.  So far some of the things I’ve tried are:
  • spinning and dyeing yarn (which became one of my favorite hobbies)
  • fencing (as in the sport)
  • sca heavy fighting (it’s a rush thwacking someone over the head with a rattan stick)
  • translating manga (I did 2 chapters of a young girls japanese “comic”, just to see if I could)
  • bladesmithing (This was the hardest for me to try, not because I didn’t have the arm strength.  But I kept forgetting to breathe as I hammered.  I think Jamie was ready to hit me to get me to breathe that day.  My token mangled twisted piece of metal doesn’t look like a knife, but I could still beat someone over the head with it.)
  • chainmail (I need someone to cut the rings if they are thick, but after that I can do it)
  • multiple connecting cranes origami
  • editing a chunk of a green screened film for a friend
  • translating old norse/icelandic and anglo saxon names (for a product idea – the anglo saxon one actually made it as a product)
  • growing orchids
  • sea kayaking (with my dear mom who doesn’t like being in deep water)
  • roleplaying
  • target shooting (I dated the son of a gunsmith for a while.  The first gun that was put in my hands was a 30.06, by that very gunsmith.  I should have had some gun safety tips first.  The trigger was rediculously easy to pull.  Scared me to death when it kicked back, and I have no idea where that shot went.  Needless to say, they gave me a 22 for the rest of the day.  I’d like to someday learn to be a better and safer shot.)
  • pottery
  • playing the drums (I wish I would have stuck with this more.  But my poor family couldn’t take my practice sessions.  Will try hard to be supportive of my kids musical attempts because of that.)
